Fighting Talk...
British drivers did not fare well in their home Grand Prix but
British-based teams predominated in the results, as they have for
decades. Since the Constructors' Championship began in 1958
teams headquartered in England have won 37 of the 54 titles
awarded to the best team. Moreover, all the modern Euro-based
teams make extensive use of British technology and personnel.
Eight of the current 12 F1 teams are based in England - most of
them near Silverstone. The former World War 2 bomber base
inspired a prominent English F1 technical guru, who wishes to
remain anonymous, to present his theory of how the Brits came to
rule the F1 world...
"We have the sort of guys who would have built Spitfires and flew
them in the Battle of Britain. Motor racing is total warfare and
England is the most aggressive and belligerent nation on earth.
We pretend not to be and invent passive games like cricket and
talk about fair play, but we've been to war with more nations
than any other country on earth. That's why this country built
the biggest Empire in history and why the world speaks English,
even though it's an illogical language. Most of the world's major
sports started here, and as the English author George Orwell once
said: 'Sport is only warfare without the guns.'"
